A business continuity plan for information technology services is a comprehensive plan for ensuring the availability of IT services and data in the event of an interruption, whether due to a disaster, cyber security breach, or any other type of event. The plan should identify key IT services and data, prioritize their importance, and outline procedures for restoring or continuing operations in the event of an interruption. An effective business continuity plan should also include strategies for preventing or mitigating the impacts of potential disruptions.
Each focus area has its own objectives, projects, and KPIs to ensure that the strategy is comprehensive and effective.
This template is designed to help IT service providers and managed service providers (MSPs) create a comprehensive business continuity plan. It includes a set of steps that can be followed to define focus areas, set measurable targets (KPIs), implement related projects, and create a detailed plan for IT service continuity.
Focus areas are the key themes of your business continuity plan. Examples of focus areas could include improving IT service availability, minimizing the risk of cyber security breaches, or enhancing IT systems performance. Each focus area should be clearly defined and outlined in the plan.
Objectives are the specific goals that you want to achieve for each focus area. Objectives should be measurable and achievable within the timeframe of the plan. For example, an objective for improving IT service availability could be to increase uptime from 99.5% to 99.8%.
Measurable targets, or key performance indicators (KPIs), are the specific metrics that you want to measure in order to determine whether or not you have achieved your objectives. Examples of KPIs include uptime, response time, and data transfer speed.
Projects, or actions, are the specific steps that you need to take in order to achieve your objectives and KPIs. Examples of projects could include implementing redundant systems and processes, developing and maintaining a disaster recovery plan, or upgrading IT infrastructure.
